Manifold thermocouples are built for hot runner manifold sensing, with a bend-protection spring and ungrounded measuring point. Ring/washer-type thermocouples instead use a flat metal lug or plate that makes direct contact with the surface, optimising thermal conductivity for accurate, reliable surface-temperature readings.
